LEYTON: Fare dodger caught with card 'skimming' device
 |
| Ivan Ilascu |
A MAN who tried to fare dodge while carrying a cash machine skimming device has been jailed for four months today (Wednesday).
Hapless Ivan Ilascu was spotted by police at Leyton Underground station trying to "double shuffle" through the barriers behind a paying passenger just after morning rush hour.
The 20-year-old, of no fixed abode, was arrested by the British Transport Police officers on suspicion of fare evasion when he refused to give his name and address.
Det Sgt Gabriel Oresajo said: "After searching Ilascu at the scene, the officers then found what appeared to be a skimming device hidden inside his jacket and he was further arrested on suspicion of possession of an article for use in fraud.
Detectives in BTP's specialist credit card unit examined the device and confirmed it as a skimming device with a miniature camera that could have been used to record peoples' PIN numbers at cash and ticket machines.
DS Oresajo added: "I hope the prison sentence handed down to Ilascu send out a strong message that BTP investigators are actively interrupting fraud and arresting offenders."
Ilascu was sentenced for possession of an article for use in fraud at Waltham Forest Magistrates Court in Forest Road, Walthamstow, last Thursday (March 20).

This man has a East European name, I would expect that after he has served his sentence, that he should be extradited back home, otherwise, I can see that he'll return to his dodgy lifestyle as soon as he's freed.

No. When released after a couple of weeks, the council will find him a nice flat and then the DHSS will pay for it.

The EU was set up to facilitate free movement of WORKERS, not criminals. Those who come here to work, I welcome.
The information here suggests that Mr Ilascu has not been exercising freedom of movement for the purpose of legal economic activity. He is therefore not exercising a Treaty right, so UK domestic immigration law applies. If he is not a British Citizen, has no valid leave to remain in the UK under the Immigration Rules or has breached his conditions by engaging in crime he should be liable to be removed. But as Eddy says, he probably won't be. He may join many of the other EU homeless and unemployed young men who congregate locally for free food handouts when they should be either working, engaging in legitimate business or going back to their families.

This amn is patently as Romanian career criminal and all he gets is a 4 month sentence which means trhat he'll be released after a few weeks. Another example of Labour non justice and the irreperable damage that the Labour Government are doing to Britian.

I'm just amazed they caught a fare dodger. I saw one laughing scumbucket vault the barriers at Leyton last week, right infront of the Tubedrone in the cubicle at the end. He couldn't have cared less.

It appears the more enterprising and go-ahead Poles, Lithuanians are heading back home having made their money here and generally contributed to our economy. What we are getting now is more the dregs of Eastern Europe to join our own underclass and leech off our country. Romanians are well known cashpoint fiddlers, as we seem to have caught this one red handed surely we can at least deport or try and get the Romanian govt to put him in one of their prisons.

Plenty of people, of all colours etc, fiddle, the Romanians and A8 Nationals can't claim benefit unless they work (Or steal it seems) many are returning home and those that steal get jailed with the standard punishment for the crime.
Eastern Europeans get singled out but what about home grown criminals?

Surely residents should appreciate that the rise in crime caused by immigration is a price worth paying when you consider the increase in the ...er.. vibrancy of our area and the ..erm ..prosperitybrought about by their contribution?

As a Station Supervisor for LUL i am constantly confronted with this typr of fare dodger, we are taught not to put ourselves in any danger as some of these eastern europeans are extremly violent. I am sick to death of watching these so called "workers" defy the system thinking they have a given right to free travel, but lets face it they get everything else free, food, clothing, child benefit for children not even in the uk. This practice of double gateing is increasing amongst teenagers as well and who can blame them when they see these free-riders doing it all the time. Oh and one other thing, when you do confront them which I do the reply you get is, wait for it "I no speak English, I no understand". Would i get away with this is their country i think not.
