Family history group meets
THE first meeting of the Willingale Family History Society, which exists to research Willingale family history, took place at Lopping Hall, Loughton.
Visitors learned that from research already held there was a Willingale family living in Loughton as early as the 16th century.
From this first member of the Willingale family, more than 500 descendants have been identified and 200 are alive today.
The society's main objective is to develop a complete record of all these descendants.
Members hope the group will provide a focus for information about the Willingale clan and to develop suitable social events.
Loughton town councillor Chris Pond was invited to talk about Thomas Willingale, arguably the most famous Willingale to date.
Anyone wanting more information about the society can visit its website at www.willingale.org.
